Instructions
- Clean and peel the bull testicles. Slice them into 1/4 inch thick rounds.
- In a medium-sized bowl, combine the buttermilk and hot sauce. Add the slices and ensure they are fully submerged. Let them marinate for at least 2 hours in the refrigerator.
- In another bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F.
- Remove the marinated slices from the buttermilk, allowing the excess to drip off. Dredge each slice in the flour mixture, ensuring they are well-coated. Shake off any excess.
- Fry the slices in the hot oil until they turn a deep golden brown, which should take about 3 minutes. Be careful not to overcrowd the pot.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried slices and drain them on paper towels.
- Serve the Ozark Mountain Oysters hot, accompanied by the cocktail sauce for dipping.
Tips
- For a touch of local flavor, consider replacing half of the buttermilk with a local beer. Make sure to let the 'oysters' drain well after frying to ensure maximum crispiness. Pair with a cold beer for the ultimate experience.
