Paneer Tikka: Grilled Indian Cheese Delight

Paneer Tikka is a beloved Indian appetizer that has captivated palettes for centuries. This vibrant dish, featuring marinated paneer cheese cubes grilled to smoky perfection alongside crisp vegetables, offers a phenomenal play of textures and flavors. Serving it hot off the grill with a tangy mint chutney or creamy yogurt dip completes this epicurean journey to the heart of Indian culinary tradition.

Serves 4

Ingredients

Paneer (Indian Cottage Cheese)
250g, cut into cubes
Yogurt
1 cup
Ginger-garlic paste
2 teaspoons
Turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon
Red chili powder
1 teaspoon
Garam masala
1 teaspoon
Lemon juice
1 tablespoon
Salt
to taste
Bell peppers
1 cup, cut into squares
Onion
1 cup, cut into squares
Cherry tomatoes
1 cup
Oil
2 tablespoons
Skewers
as needed

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, lemon juice, and salt to make a marinade.
  2. Add the paneer cubes into the marinade ensuring each cube is well-coated. Let it rest for at least 15 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  3. Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium heat.
  4. Thread the marinated paneer cubes, bell peppers, onion squares, and cherry tomatoes alternately onto the skewers.
  5. Brush each skewer lightly with oil to prevent sticking and place them on the grill.
  6. Grill for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until the paneer is beautifully golden and the vegetables have a nice char.
  7. Remove the skewers from the grill and serve hot with your choice of mint chutney or a cooling yogurt dip.

Tips

  • 💡 If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes before threading to prevent burning.
  • 💡 For a vegan option, replace paneer with tofu and use vegan yogurt.
