Servings: 12

Ingredients

All-purpose flour
4 cups
Granulated sugar
1/4 cup
Active dry yeast
2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet)
Salt
1 teaspoon
Unsalted butter
1/2 cup, divided (1/4 cup for dough, 1/4 cup for brushing)
Warm milk
1 cup (about 110°f or 43°c)
Egg
1, beaten

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt until well combined.
  2. In a small saucepan, melt 1/4 cup of butter over low heat and warm the milk until lukewarm (about 110°F or 43°C).
  3. Pour the melted butter and warm milk into the dry ingredients, followed by the beaten egg. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for approximately 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Once the dough has risen, gently punch it down to release the air and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a smooth ball.
  8. Arrange the rolls in a greased baking dish, ensuring there is enough space between each for expansion.
  9. Cover the rolls with a kitchen towel and allow them to rise for another 30 minutes, until puffy.
  10. Bake the rolls for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped.
  11. Remove from the oven and immediately brush the tops with the remaining melted butter for a glossy finish.
  12. Serve warm and enjoy the comforting flavors of these classic rolls!
