Bursting with juicy peaches and sweet mangoes, this dessert is topped with a golden and crunchy oat-almond crumble. Each bite is a harmonious blend of sweet and tart, complemented by the warm spices of cinnamon. Perfect for gatherings, this crisp is best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, making it an irresistible treat that evokes the sunny days of summer. The origins of fruit crisps can be traced back to the 19th century in England, where they were created as a way to use up surplus fruit, showcasing the beauty of seasonal produce.
Ingredients
- Unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup, cold and cubed
- Salt
- 1/4 teaspoon
- Almonds
- 1/2 cup, chopped
- Brown sugar
- 1/2 cup
- Rolled oats
- 1 cup
- All-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup
- Cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon
- Cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons
- Granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup
- Lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon
- Mangoes
- 2, peeled, pitted, and diced
- Peaches
- 4, peeled, pitted, and sliced
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced peaches, diced mangoes, lemon juice, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon. Toss until the fruit is well coated and set aside.
- Transfer the fruit mixture into a 9x9-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- In a separate bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, chopped almonds, and salt until well combined.
- Add the cold cubed butter to the dry mixture. Using your fingers or a pastry cutter, cut the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the fruit in the baking dish, ensuring it covers the fruit completely.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the fruit is bubbly and the topping is golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra touch of indulgence.
Tips
- For a gluten-free version, substitute the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend.
- Feel free to mix in other fruits such as berries or apples for added flavor and variation.
- If you prefer a crunchier topping, bake a few minutes longer, keeping an eye to avoid burning.
