Classic Peach Crisp

Indulge in the warm, comforting flavors of this Classic Peach Crisp, where juicy, ripe peaches meet a crunchy oat topping. Baked to perfection, this delightful dessert is perfect for summer gatherings, family dinners, or cozy nights in. The golden-brown crust pairs beautifully with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, making every bite a heavenly experience. Originating in the United States during the 19th century, this dish was a way to utilize abundant seasonal fruits and has since become a beloved staple in American cuisine.

Serves 8

Ingredients

Fresh peaches
6 cups, sliced
Lemon juice
1 tablespoon
Granulated sugar
1/2 cup
All-purpose flour
2 tablespoons
Ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon
Salt
1/4 teaspoon
Old-fashioned oats
1 cup
Brown sugar
1/3 cup
Unsalted butter
1/2 cup, cold and cubed

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine sliced peaches and lemon juice. Toss to coat the peaches evenly.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt. Add this dry mixture to the peaches and toss until the peaches are fully coated.
  4. Transfer the peach mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  5. In another bowl, combine old-fashioned oats, brown sugar, and cold cubed butter. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the peach layer in the baking dish.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the peaches are bubbly.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
  9. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra treat!

Tips

  • 💡 For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of nutmeg to the peach mixture.
  • 💡 If you prefer a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour with gluten-free flour and ensure your oats are certified gluten-free.
  • 💡 Feel free to mix in other fruits such as blueberries or raspberries for a delightful twist!
