Spiced Pear Compote
Indulge in the sweet and spicy flavors of this Spiced Pear Compote. Made with lusciously ripe pears, a hint of warm cinnamon, and a drizzle of honey, this compote transforms into a delightful topping that will elevate your breakfast and desserts. Historically, compote is a dessert originated from medieval Europe, made with whole or pieces of fruit in sugar syrup. This recipe, with its simple yet flavorful combination of ingredients, pays homage to that tradition, bringing a piece of history to your table.
Ingredients
- Lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons
- Water
- 1/2 cup
- Honey
- 1/4 cup
- Cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon
- Ripe pears
- 4, peeled, cored, and diced
Instructions
- In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the diced pears, cinnamon, honey, water, and lemon juice. Ensure that the pears are well-coated with the other ingredients.
- Place the saucepan on the stove over medium heat. Allow the mixture to come to a boil.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer. Continue to cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the pears have softened and the liquid has thickened into a syrupy consistency.
- After cooking, remove the saucepan from the heat. Allow the compote to cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Serve the compote warm or chilled. It can be used as a delightful topping for yogurt, pancakes, or even a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!
Tips
- For a variation, you can add some cloves or nutmeg to the mixture for added warmth and depth of flavor.
- The compote can be stored in a clean, air-tight jar in the refrigerator for up to a week.
