Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Peel the pearl onions and trim the ends. If the onions are stubborn, blanching them in boiling water for 30 seconds can make peeling easier.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, honey, chopped fresh thyme, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
- Add the peeled pearl onions to the bowl and toss until they are thoroughly coated with the marinade.
- Spread the onions in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
- Roast in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, stirring halfway through, until the onions are caramelized and tender.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before transferring to a serving platter. Garnish with additional fresh thyme if desired.
- Serve warm or at room temperature as a flavorful appetizer.
Tips
- For a spicier version, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the marinade.
- These caramelized onions also pair beautifully with goat cheese or can be served on toasted baguette slices for a more substantial appetizer.
