Instructions
- Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
- In a bowl, season the sliced steak or chicken with cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper, ensuring an even coating.
- Add the seasoned meat to the skillet and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the meat from the skillet and set aside, keeping it warm.
- In the same skillet, add the sliced onion, bell peppers, and minced garlic. Sauté until the vegetables are tender and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
- While the vegetables are cooking, slice the crusty bread rolls in half lengthwise.
- Spread a generous layer of mayonnaise on one side of each bread roll for a creamy contrast.
- Layer the cooked meat on the mayonnaise side of the bread, followed by the sautéed vegetables, avocado slices, tomato slices, and shredded lettuce.
- Top each sandwich with a spoonful of salsa for an extra kick of flavor, then cover with the other half of the bread roll.
- Serve the Pepitos immediately while the bread is still warm and the flavors are fresh. Enjoy!
Tips
- For a spicier kick, add sliced jalapeños to the vegetables or use a spicy salsa.
- Feel free to customize the vegetables based on your preference; adding mushrooms or zucchini can also be delicious.
- For a healthier option, swap the mayonnaise for Greek yogurt for a tangy twist.
