Indulge in the mouthwatering delight of Philly Cheesesteak Sliders, where tender, thinly sliced steak meets sautéed bell peppers and onions, all lovingly embraced by gooey melted provolone cheese. These mini sandwiches are perfect for game day gatherings or casual family dinners, bringing the iconic flavors of Philadelphia right to your table. Originating from the streets of Philadelphia in the early 20th century, the cheesesteak has become a beloved American classic, and these sliders offer a fun twist on the traditional sandwich.

Serves 12

Ingredients

Olive oil
2 tablespoons
Salt
to taste
Black pepper
to taste
Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon
Mayonnaise
2 tablespoons
Slider buns
12 (small-sized)
Provolone cheese
12 slices
Onion
1 large, thinly sliced
Bell peppers
2 (1 red, 1 green), thinly sliced
Steak (ribeye or flank steak)
1 pound, thinly sliced against the grain

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  3. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers to the skillet. Sauté until they are soft and slightly caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Push the sautéed onions and peppers to one side of the skillet. Add the thinly sliced steak to the other side. Season the steak with salt and pepper, cooking until browned and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  5. Slice the slider buns in half horizontally and arrange the bottom halves in a baking dish.
  6. Spread a layer of mayonnaise on the bottom halves of the slider buns, followed by a drizzle of Dijon mustard for an extra punch of flavor.
  7. Layer the cooked steak evenly on top of the mayonnaise.
  8. Top the steak with the sautéed onions and peppers.
  9. Place a slice of provolone cheese on top of the onion and pepper mixture, ensuring it covers the filling well.
  10. Cover with the top halves of the slider buns.
  11. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the sliders are heated through.
  12. Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and serve warm. Enjoy the delicious melty goodness!

Tips

  • 💡 For an added flavor boost, consider marinating the sliced steak in a mixture of olive oil, garlic, and Worcestershire sauce for at least 30 minutes before cooking.
  • 💡 Feel free to experiment with different cheeses like Cheez Whiz or mozzarella for a unique twist!
  • 💡 These sliders can also be made with shredded chicken or pulled pork for a different take on the classic.
