Ingredients

Original recipe serves 4

All-purpose flour
4 cups
Dry yeast
1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons)
Sugar
1 teaspoon
Salt
1 teaspoon
Warm water
1 1/2 cups
Olive oil
2 tablespoons, plus more for greasing
Ground beef
1 pound
Onion
1, finely chopped
Bell peppers
2, diced (any color)
Tomatoes
2, chopped
Salt
to taste
Black pepper
to taste
Fresh parsley
1/4 cup, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, dry yeast, salt, and sugar. Gradually add the warm water and olive oil, mixing until a dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, until it is smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  4. While the dough is rising, prepare the topping. In a large pan over medium heat, cook the ground beef, onion, bell peppers, and tomatoes until the beef is browned and the vegetables are soft. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Once the dough has risen, divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into an oval shape, about 1/2 inch thick.
  7. Spread the beef and vegetable mixture evenly over each piece of dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  8. Bake the pides in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the toppings are bubbly.
  9. Sprinkle the chopped parsley over the hot pides before serving.

Tips

  • 💡 For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with a mixture of sautéed mushrooms, zucchini, and spinach.
  • 💡 Feel free to experiment with different toppings such as feta cheese, olives, or various herbs to customize your pide.
