Pineapple Chutney
This vibrant and zesty pineapple chutney bursts with tropical flavors, balancing sweet and tangy notes that make it a delightful companion to grilled meats, seafood, or even as a unique topping for sandwiches and burgers. The medley of fresh pineapple, crisp vegetables, and aromatic spices creates a versatile condiment that carries a hint of the Caribbean in every bite. Historically, chutneys originated in India as a method to preserve fruits and spices, and over time, they have evolved into a beloved culinary staple worldwide.
Ingredients
- Pineapple
- 2 cups, diced
- Red onion
- 1 medium, diced
- Red bell pepper
- 1 medium, diced
- Apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 cup
- Brown sugar
- 1/4 cup
- Garlic
- 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger
- 1 tablespoon, grated
- Cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
- Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the diced pineapple, red onion, red bell pepper, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, cayenne pepper, and salt.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally to ensure the ingredients are well combined.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let the chutney simmer uncovered for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally. The chutney should thicken and the flavors will meld beautifully.
- After simmering, remove the saucepan from heat and allow the chutney to cool completely before transferring it to a clean jar or container.
- Serve the pineapple chutney as a condiment with grilled meats, seafood, or as a bold topping for sandwiches and burgers. It pairs wonderfully with pork, chicken, and even vegetarian dishes.
Tips
- For an extra kick, try adding chopped jalapeños or a splash of hot sauce.
- This chutney can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, allowing the flavors to develop even further.
- Feel free to substitute or add other fruits, such as mango or peach, for a different flavor profile.
