Sweet and Tangy Pineapple Sauce

Elevate your dishes with this luscious Sweet and Tangy Pineapple Sauce, a vibrant blend of juicy pineapple chunks, zesty lemon, and a touch of sweetness. This versatile sauce can be drizzled over vanilla ice cream for a tropical dessert, used as a glaze for grilled meats, or even stirred into yogurt for a refreshing snack. Rooted in the rich culinary traditions of tropical regions, pineapple sauce brings a taste of sunshine to any table.

Serves 8

Ingredients

Pineapple chunks
1 can (20 oz) or 2 cups fresh, diced
Granulated sugar
1/2 cup
Water
1 cup, divided
Lemon juice
2 tablespoons, freshly squeezed
Cornstarch
2 tablespoons

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the pineapple chunks, sugar, 3/4 cup of the water, and lemon juice.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with the remaining 1/4 cup of water to create a smooth slurry.
  4. Slowly pour the cornstarch slurry into the saucepan while stirring constantly to ensure there are no lumps.
  5. Continue to cook the sauce for another 5 minutes, or until it thickens to your desired consistency, stirring frequently.
  6. Once thickened, remove the saucepan from heat and allow the sauce to cool slightly before serving.
  7. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Tips

  • 💡 For a spicier kick, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes during the simmering stage.
  • 💡 This sauce can also be blended for a smoother texture, perfect for drizzling.
  • 💡 Experiment with different citrus juices like lime or orange for a unique flavor twist.
