Authentic Middle-Eastern Pita Bread and Hummus

- Pita bread
- 4 pieces
- Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon, or to taste
- Extra-virgin olive oil
- 1/4 cup
- Lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons, freshly squeezed
- Garlic
- 2 cloves, minced
- Tahini
- 1/2 cup
- Chickpeas
- 1 (15-ounce) can, drained and rinsed
Instructions
- Start by draining and rinsing the chickpeas thoroughly under cold water.
- In a food processor, combine the chickpeas, tahini, minced garlic, freshly squeezed lemon juice, extra-virgin olive oil, and salt.
- Process the mixture until it's smooth and creamy. This might take a couple of minutes.
- If the hummus is too thick, add a little water or more olive oil, one tablespoon at a time, until it reaches your desired consistency.
- Taste the hummus and adjust the seasoning if necessary. You might want to add more salt, lemon juice, or garlic to suit your taste.
- Place the hummus in a bowl, drizzle with a bit of olive oil, and serve with warm pita bread on the side.
