Ingredients

Original recipe serves 4

Pita bread
4 pieces
Salt
1/2 teaspoon, or to taste
Extra-virgin olive oil
1/4 cup
Lemon juice
2 tablespoons, freshly squeezed
Garlic
2 cloves, minced
Tahini
1/2 cup
Chickpeas
1 (15-ounce) can, drained and rinsed

Instructions

  1. Start by draining and rinsing the chickpeas thoroughly under cold water.
  2. In a food processor, combine the chickpeas, tahini, minced garlic, freshly squeezed lemon juice, extra-virgin olive oil, and salt.
  3. Process the mixture until it's smooth and creamy. This might take a couple of minutes.
  4. If the hummus is too thick, add a little water or more olive oil, one tablespoon at a time, until it reaches your desired consistency.
  5. Taste the hummus and adjust the seasoning if necessary. You might want to add more salt, lemon juice, or garlic to suit your taste.
  6. Place the hummus in a bowl, drizzle with a bit of olive oil, and serve with warm pita bread on the side.
  7. Enjoy this authentic Middle-Eastern dish as a snack, appetizer, or part of a meze spread!
