Instructions
- Peel the ripe plantains and cut them diagonally into slices, about 1/2 inch thick.
- In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until hot.
- Carefully add the plantain slices to the skillet in a single layer. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and caramelized.
- Once cooked, remove the plantains from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- In a small bowl, mix together the sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt if desired.
- While the plantains are still warm, sprinkle the sugar-cinnamon mixture generously over them, ensuring they're well-coated.
- Serve the Platanos Maduros warm as a delightful side dish, snack, or dessert.
Tips
- For an extra touch, you can add a splash of vanilla extract to the sugar-cinnamon mixture.
- Pair Platanos Maduros with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delicious dessert.
- If you're looking for a healthier option, consider baking the plantains instead of frying them. Brush them with a little oil and bake at 400°F (200°C) until golden and tender.
