Instructions
- In a large pot, bring the water and 1 tablespoon of salt to a boil. Gradually whisk in the polenta to avoid any lumps.
- Reduce the heat to low, continuing to stir the polenta frequently for about 30 minutes, until it becomes thick and creamy.
- As the polenta cooks, heat olive oil in a separate skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage links and cook until they're evenly browned and fully cooked. Once done, remove the sausages from the skillet and set them aside.
- In the same skillet, add the diced onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent and the garlic releases its aroma.
- Cut the cooked sausage links into bite-sized pieces and reintroduce them to the skillet with the onion and garlic.
- Pour in the tomato sauce and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend together. Season with additional salt and pepper to taste.
- To serve, ladle a generous portion of the creamy polenta onto each plate. Top with the sausage and tomato sauce mixture.
- Finish off each plate with a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese and a scattering of chopped fresh basil.
- Serve hot and enjoy the taste of traditional Italian comfort food!
Tips
- For an added touch of richness, you can stir in a knob of butter or a splash of cream into the polenta once it's cooked.
- Feel free to switch out Italian sausage for your preferred type of sausage. The recipe is quite versatile!
