Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease a baking sheet with butter.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, eggs, milk, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Use your hands to mix until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Shape the mixture into a loaf on the prepared baking sheet.
- Wrap the bacon slices around the meatloaf, tucking the ends underneath so they stay in place. If needed, secure them with toothpicks.
- Bake the meatloaf in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F. If the bacon is not crispy enough, broil the meatloaf for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before removing any toothpicks and slicing.
- Serve the Polpettone alla Milanese warm with your favorite side dishes.
Tips
- For a spicier kick, add some crushed red pepper flakes to the meat mixture.
- You can substitute half of the ground beef with ground pork or veal for a different flavor profile.
- This meatloaf pairs well with a tangy tomato sauce or a creamy mushroom sauce.
