Ingredients
- Ground beef
- 1 pound (450g)
- Salt
- 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon
- Hamburger buns
- 4, soft
- Gravy
- 2 cups, prepared
- Cheese curds
- 1 cup
- Lettuce
- 4 leaves, washed and dried
- Tomato
- 1, sliced
- Onion
- 1 small, sliced
Instructions
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
- In a large bowl, season the ground beef with salt and pepper. Mix gently and form the mixture into 4 equal patties, making a small indentation in the center of each to prevent puffing during cooking.
- Grill the patties for about 5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. For medium, aim for an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
- While the burgers are grilling, heat the prepared gravy in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally until warmed through.
- Toast the hamburger buns on the grill for about 1 minute, or until they are lightly golden and crispy.
- To assemble the burgers, place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun. Add a slice of tomato and a slice of onion on top.
- Once the patties are grilled, place a patty on top of the onion, then generously top with cheese curds.
- Pour hot gravy over the cheese curds, allowing it to melt them slightly, then cap with the other half of the bun.
- Serve the poutine burgers immediately, with extra napkins on the side for a messy, delicious experience!
Tips
- For an extra kick, consider adding sliced jalapeños or spicy mustard to your burger.
- Feel free to substitute ground turkey or plant-based meat alternatives for a lighter or vegetarian option.
- Experiment with different types of cheese; cheddar or mozzarella can also work well.
