Cajun Prawn and Grits
This vibrant dish brings together the bold flavors of the South with succulent prawns perfectly nestled atop a bed of creamy, buttery grits. Originating from the low country cuisine of the Southern United States, this dish reflects the rich culinary traditions that blend different cultures. The combination of Cajun spices and fresh vegetables creates a mouth-watering experience that is both comforting and indulgent. A sprinkle of green onions adds a touch of freshness that serves as the perfect finishing touch.
Ingredients
- Chicken broth
- 4 cups
- Grits
- 1 cup
- Unsalted butter
- 4 tablespoons
- Garlic
- 3 cloves, minced
- Onion
- 1 medium, diced
- Bell pepper
- 1 medium, diced (any color)
- Prawns
- 1 pound, peeled and deveined
- Cajun seasoning
- 2 tablespoons
- Salt
- to taste
- Pepper
- to taste
- Green onions
- 2, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, bring the chicken broth to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Slowly whisk in the grits, reducing the heat to low. Cook for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the grits are creamy and tender. If the grits become too thick, you can add a bit more chicken broth to reach your desired consistency.
- While the grits are cooking, heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic, diced onion, and bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté until the vegetables are softened and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
- Season the prawns with Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper. Add them to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until they turn pink and are cooked through.
- Once the grits are done, fold in the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter for extra creaminess.
- To serve, spoon the creamy grits onto plates and top with the Cajun prawns and vegetable mixture.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and enjoy your delicious Cajun Prawn and Grits!
Tips
- For a spicier kick, add diced jalapeños to the vegetable mixture.
- You can substitute the prawns with chicken or sausage for a different flavor profile.
- If you want to make the grits even richer, consider adding shredded cheese or cream.
