Traditional Swiss Raclette
Raclette, a hearty and indulgent traditional Swiss dish, is more than just a meal - it's an experience! Imagine a cozy gathering around a sizzling grill, where a golden and bubbly Raclette cheese is the star. The melted cheese is scraped onto a plate filled with an array of accompaniments, creating a symphony of flavors and textures. This dinner delight brings warmth, joy, and a sense of togetherness, perfect for a chilly winter night or a fun, interactive dinner party.
Ingredients
- Raclette cheese
- 500 grams, sliced into thin pieces
- Potatoes
- 8 medium, boiled, cooled, and sliced
- Cornichons
- 1 cup
- Pickled onions
- 1 cup
- Cured meats
- 400 grams (such as prosciutto, salami, or ham)
- Fresh vegetables
- 2 cups (such as cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, or mushrooms)
- Fresh herbs
- 1 bunch (such as parsley or chives), chopped
- Salt and pepper
- to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your raclette grill. If you don't have a raclette grill, a regular grill can work too, with a heatproof dish for melting the cheese.
- Arrange your boiled and sliced potatoes, cornichons, pickled onions, cured meats, and fresh vegetables in separate dishes for everyone to access.
- Place the thin slices of raclette cheese onto the grill or in a heatproof dish under the grill. Let the cheese melt until it's bubbly and has a golden-brown hue.
- Once the cheese is adequately melted, scrape it onto your plate filled with accompaniments of your choice. Mix and match flavors as you please!
- Season your plate with salt and pepper to taste, and garnish with fresh herbs for an added layer of freshness.
- Indulge in the warm, gooey goodness of the raclette cheese combined with the accompaniments. Remember, the best part of raclette is the experience of creating your unique combination of flavors!
Tips
- For a vegetarian version, simply omit the cured meats and add more vegetables.
- To add a twist, you can also try different types of pickles or use sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes.
- Don't rush the melting of the cheese. The slower it melts, the more intense the flavor.
