Ingredients

Original recipe serves 20

Cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon
Black pepper
1 teaspoon, freshly ground
Nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon, freshly grated
Cloves
1/2 teaspoon, ground
Cardamom
1/2 teaspoon, ground
Paprika
1 tablespoon
Ginger
1 teaspoon, ground
Cinnamon
1 tablespoon
Turmeric
1 tablespoon
Coriander
2 teaspoons, ground
Cumin
2 teaspoons, ground

Instructions

  1. Gather all your spices and ensure they are freshly ground for the most potent flavor.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the cayenne pepper, black pepper, nutmeg, cloves, cardamom, paprika, ginger, cinnamon, turmeric, coriander, and cumin.
  3. Using a spoon, mix well until all the spices are evenly blended and there are no clumps.
  4. Transfer the spice blend to an airtight container. Make sure to store it in a cool, dark place to maintain its freshness and potency.
  5. Your Ras El Hanout is now ready to use! This blend can be used immediately, but like a good wine, it improves with age. Letting it sit for a few days allows the flavors to meld together, creating a more complex flavor profile.
  6. Sprinkle this aromatic blend into your tagines, couscous dishes, grilled meats, roasted vegetables or any dish you'd like to add a burst of Moroccan flavor to.

Tips

  • 💡 For a smoky flavor, try using smoked paprika instead of regular paprika. If you like a bit of a kick, increase the amount of cayenne pepper. This blend is versatile and can be adjusted to suit your taste.
