Indulge in a symphony of sweet and tart flavors with this mouth-watering Rhubarb and Pear Crumble. The tartness of rhubarb and the luscious sweetness of ripe pears, all nestled under a golden, crunchy crumble topping, creates a delightful contrast that will leave you craving for more. This classic British dessert, which became popular during World War II as an economical and delicious way to use up seasonal produce, is best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

Servings: 6

Ingredients

Unsalted butter
1/2 cup, cold and cubed
Salt
1/4 teaspoon
Cinnamon
1 teaspoon
Brown sugar
1/2 cup
Rolled oats
1 cup
All-purpose flour
1 cup
Granulated sugar
1 cup
Pears
2 cups, sliced
Rhubarb
2 cups, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped rhubarb, sliced pears, and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar. Toss well to coat the fruit evenly with the sugar.
  3. In another bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Add the cold, cubed unsalted butter to the flour mixture. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. This is your crumble topping.
  5. Transfer the rhubarb and pear mixture to a baking dish. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the fruit.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the fruit is bubbling and the crumble topping is golden brown.
  7. Remove the crumble from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
  8. For an extra touch of indulgence, serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Enjoy!
