Root Beer and Molasses Marinade
This Root Beer and Molasses Marinade is a game-changer for anyone looking to take their grilling game to the next level. The sweetness of the root beer and the robust, smoky flavor of the molasses provide a one-two punch of flavor. Especially ideal for pork and chicken, this marinade will certainly make your BBQ a memorable one. Root beer has actually been used in cooking since its creation in the late 19th century, and this recipe pays homage to that culinary history, adding a modern twist with the use of molasses.

- 1/4 cup Soy sauce
- 1/2 cup Molasses
- 1 cup Root beer
Dietary Notes
- Servings: Enough for 2-3 pounds of meat
- Dish Type: Marinade
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Marinating Time: 2+ hours
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the root beer, molasses, soy sauce, Dijon mustard, minced garlic, grated ginger, and freshly ground black pepper. Whisk until all the ingredients are well integrated.
- Place your chosen meat (pork or chicken works best) in a large zip-top bag or in a shallow dish.
- Pour the marinade over the meat, making sure it's fully coated.
- Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate. For best results, let the meat marinate for at least 2 hours, or better yet, overnight.
- When ready to grill, remove the meat from the marinade, shaking off any excess. Discard the remaining marinade.
- Grill your meat as desired, turning occasionally for even cooking. Enjoy the sweet and tangy flavors!
Tips
- For a spicier kick, add a teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes to the marinade.
- This marinade can also be used in the oven. Just place the marinated meat in a baking dish and bake at 375°F until fully cooked.
