Ingredients
- All-purpose flour
- 2 cups
- Granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup
- Baking powder
- 1 tablespoon
- Anise seeds
- 1 teaspoon
- Lemon zest
- 1 tablespoon
- Salt
- 1/4 teaspoon
- Butter
- 1/4 cup, melted
- Eggs
- 2, beaten
- Powdered sugar
- for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, anise seeds, lemon zest, and salt until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then stir in the melted butter until smooth.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour until it reaches a manageable consistency.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into doughnut shapes using a doughnut cutter or two round cookie cutters (one larger for the outer ring and one smaller for the center).
- Place the shaped doughnuts on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are not touching.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until they are golden brown. Keep an eye on them to prevent over-baking.
- Once done, remove from the oven and allow to cool on a wire rack.
- Dust the warm doughnuts generously with powdered sugar before serving.
Tips
- For an extra flavor kick, consider adding a dash of vanilla extract to the wet ingredients.
- These doughnuts can also be enjoyed with a drizzle of honey or a side of chocolate sauce for dipping.
- If you prefer a stronger anise flavor, slightly increase the amount of anise seeds.
