Instructions
- Chill a glass by filling it with ice or refrigerating it for at least 15 minutes.
- Rinse the chilled glass with absinthe, swirling it around to coat the sides, then pour out the excess.
- In a separate mixing glass, muddle the sugar cube with the Peychaud's bitters until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- Add the rye whiskey to the mixing glass.
- Fill the mixing glass with ice cubes and stir the mixture well for about 30 seconds. This not only chills the drink but also helps mix the flavors together.
- Strain the mixture into your prepared glass. Make sure to leave out the ice from the mixing glass.
- Garnish your Sazerac with a twist of lemon peel. Twist it over the glass to release its oils before dropping it in.
- Enjoy this classic New Orleans cocktail immediately!
Tips
- For a more traditional Sazerac, use a chilled Old Fashioned glass.
- If you want to add a bit more sweetness, consider adding a teaspoon of simple syrup along with the sugar cube.
- Always use fresh ice when making cocktails to prevent any dilution caused by melting ice.
