Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes, or until the onion becomes translucent.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook, stirring frequently, until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the diced Serrano peppers, tomatoes, cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
- Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a simmer. Once simmering, cover the skillet with a lid and let it cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- After 30 minutes, remove the skillet from heat. Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro before serving.
- Serve hot with a side of rice or warm tortillas to soak up the flavorful sauce.
Tips
- For a milder version, remove the seeds from the Serrano peppers before dicing.
- Feel free to add other vegetables like bell peppers or corn for added texture and flavor.
- This dish can also be made with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
