Sesame Oil Chicken is a traditional Chinese delight that has been passed down through generations. It is characterized by its deep, aromatic sesame oil flavor, tender chicken thighs, and the subtle warmth of ginger and garlic. This dish is not just a meal, but a comforting hug in a bowl, perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or a family gathering.

Servings: 4

Ingredients

Sesame seeds
1 tablespoon, toasted
Green onions
2 stalks, chopped
Salt and pepper
to taste
Chicken broth
1 cup
Rice wine
2 tablespoons
Soy sauce
2 tablespoons
Ginger
1 inch, peeled and finely chopped
Garlic
3 cloves, minced
Sesame oil
2 tablespoons
Chicken thighs
4, boneless and skinless

Instructions

  1. Heat the sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat until it shimmers.
  2. Add the chicken thighs to the skillet and cook until golden brown on both sides, about 5 minutes per side. Once browned, remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and finely chopped ginger. Saute until they become fragrant, taking care not to burn them. This should take about 1 minute.
  4. Pour in the soy sauce, rice wine, and chicken broth into the skillet. Stir the mixture and bring it to a simmer.
  5. Return the chicken thighs to the skillet. Cover the skillet and let it simmer for about 20 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked and tender.
  6. Season the dish with salt and pepper according to your preference.
  7. Before serving, sprinkle the dish with chopped green onions and toasted sesame seeds for added flavor and texture.
