Indulge in this luxurious Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, a delightful fusion of tender shrimp and succulent lobster meat bathed in a rich, umami-packed sauce. This dish, a staple of Chinese-American cuisine, has roots that date back to the early 20th century when Chinese chefs began adapting their traditional recipes to American tastes. The harmony of flavors from garlic and ginger enhances the sweetness of the seafood, transforming each bite into a memorable experience. Serve it over a bed of fluffy steamed rice or noodles to soak up every drop of that luscious sauce, making it a perfect centerpiece for any celebratory feast or special occasion.

Servings: 4

Ingredients

Shrimp
1 pound, peeled and deveined
Lobster meat
1 cup, chopped
Vegetable oil
2 tablespoons
Garlic
3 cloves, minced
Ginger
1 tablespoon, grated
Chicken broth
1 cup
Soy sauce
2 tablespoons
Oyster sauce
2 tablespoons
Cornstarch
1 tablespoon, dissolved in 2 tablespoons of water
Scallions
2, chopped (for garnish)
Salt
to taste
Pepper
to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until shimmering.
  2. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, sautéing for about 1 minute until fragrant and golden. Be careful not to burn them.
  3. Carefully add the shrimp to the skillet, cooking until they turn pink and opaque, about 3-4 minutes. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside on a plate.
  4. In the same skillet, add the chopped lobster meat and cook for 2 minutes until warmed through.
  5. Pour in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, and chicken broth, stirring to combine. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer and let it cook for 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  6. Stir in the dissolved cornstarch, cooking until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency, about 1-2 minutes.
  7. Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and toss gently to coat them in the sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Garnish with chopped scallions before serving.
  9. Serve the shrimp with lobster sauce over steamed rice or noodles, allowing the sauce to soak into the grains.
