Siskonmakkara

Siskonmakkara, a cherished Finnish sausage, is a delightful blend of pork and beef, seasoned to perfection with aromatic spices like black pepper and garlic. This dish is not only a staple in Finnish cuisine but also evokes a sense of home, often enjoyed during family gatherings and festive occasions. Served with hearty rye bread, tangy mustard, and crisp pickles, this comforting meal is a true taste of Finland that warms the heart and satisfies the soul.

Ingredients

Siskonmakkara sausages
4-6
Rye bread
4 slices
Pickles
1 cup, sliced
Mustard
to taste
Unsalted butter
2 tablespoons
Onion
1, sliced
Garlic powder
1 teaspoon
Black pepper
1 teaspoon, freshly ground
Salt
1/2 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, heat the unsalted butter over medium heat until melted.
  2. Add the sliced onion to the skillet and sauté until softened and lightly browned, about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Push the onions to one side of the skillet. Place the siskonmakkara sausages in the pan and cook for about 5 minutes on each side, or until they are nicely browned and cooked through.
  4. Sprinkle the black pepper, garlic powder, and salt over the sausages and onions. Stir everything together to ensure the sausages and onions are well seasoned.
  5. Remove the skillet from heat. Serve the siskonmakkara sausages hot, accompanied by mustard, sliced pickles, and hearty rye bread for a complete meal.

Tips

  • 💡 For an extra flavor boost, consider adding a splash of beer or broth to the skillet while cooking the sausages.
  • 💡 Feel free to experiment with the toppings; sautéed peppers or a sprinkle of fresh herbs can add a delightful twist.
  • 💡 If you prefer a spicier kick, mix some crushed red pepper flakes into the seasoning.
