Instructions
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
- In a mixing bowl, season the ground beef with salt and pepper. Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties, making a slight indentation in the center of each to prevent them from puffing up while cooking.
- Place the patties on the grill and cook for about 5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness (145°F for medium).
- During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of smoked gouda on each patty, covering the grill to help the cheese melt.
- While the burgers are cooking, prepare the buns by spreading mayonnaise on the bottom half of each toasted bun and placing a lettuce leaf on top.
- Once the burgers are done, place each cheese-topped patty on the lettuce-covered bun. Layer with thin apple slices for a refreshing crunch.
- Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately, enjoying the delightful contrast of flavors.
Tips
- For an extra kick, consider adding a slice of crispy bacon or a drizzle of spicy mustard.
- If you prefer a vegetarian option, substitute the beef patty with a grilled portobello mushroom or a veggie burger.
- Experiment with different apple varieties; tart apples like Granny Smith balance perfectly with the richness of the cheese.
