Instructions
- Place the egg in a small pot. Pour in enough water to cover the egg by an inch.
- Bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat.
- Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat to low and let the egg simmer for exactly 6 minutes for a runny yolk. If a slightly firmer yolk is preferred, let it simmer for 7-8 minutes.
- While the egg is cooking, toast a slice of whole wheat bread until it's crispy. Cut the toast into thin strips, also known as 'toast soldiers'.
- After the egg is done, carefully remove it from the pot using a slotted spoon and place it into an egg cup.
- Using a sharp knife, slice off the top of the egg to reveal the soft yolk inside.
- Season the egg with a pinch of salt and black pepper. Serve immediately with the toast soldiers for dipping into the yolk.
Tips
- Use eggs that are at room temperature to prevent them from cracking when placed in boiling water.
- For an added twist, you can spread a thin layer of butter or avocado on your toast soldiers.
