Experience the simple pleasure of a perfectly cooked soft boiled egg. This timeless delicacy, loved by generations, brings a comforting start to your morning. The runny yolk, encased in a firm white, awaits to be discovered and savored. Paired with crispy toast soldiers, it's a breakfast fit for a king.

Servings: 1

Ingredients

Egg
1 large
Water
enough to submerge the egg
Salt
a pinch
Black Pepper
a pinch
Whole wheat bread
1 slice, toasted and cut into thin strips (toast soldiers)

Instructions

  1. Place the egg in a small pot. Pour in enough water to cover the egg by an inch.
  2. Bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat.
  3. Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat to low and let the egg simmer for exactly 6 minutes for a runny yolk. If a slightly firmer yolk is preferred, let it simmer for 7-8 minutes.
  4. While the egg is cooking, toast a slice of whole wheat bread until it's crispy. Cut the toast into thin strips, also known as 'toast soldiers'.
  5. After the egg is done, carefully remove it from the pot using a slotted spoon and place it into an egg cup.
  6. Using a sharp knife, slice off the top of the egg to reveal the soft yolk inside.
  7. Season the egg with a pinch of salt and black pepper. Serve immediately with the toast soldiers for dipping into the yolk.
