Instructions
- Cook the spaghetti in a large pot of boiling salted water according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside, reserving 1 cup of the pasta water.
- While the spaghetti is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, chopped basil, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Stir well to combine the ingredients.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- After the sauce has simmered, add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet. Toss the spaghetti in the marinara sauce until well coated. If the sauce is too thick, add some of the reserved pasta water to thin it out.
- Serve the spaghetti marinara hot, sprinkled with a generous amount of grated Parmesan cheese on top.
Tips
- For an added depth of flavor, consider adding a splash of red wine to the sauce while it simmers.
- You can also add in other herbs such as oregano or rosemary for a different flavor profile.
- For a spicy kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce.
