Ingredients

  • Grated parmesan cheese (for serving)
  • Fresh basil leaves (for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Sugar (1 teaspoon)
  • Dried oregano (1 teaspoon)
  • Dried basil (1 teaspoon)
  • Tomato paste (2 tablespoons)
  • Canned crushed tomatoes (28 ounces)
  • Garlic (3 cloves, minced)
  • Onion (1, finely chopped)
  • Olive oil (2 tablespoons)
  • Spaghetti (8 ounces)

Instructions

  1. Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  3. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until the onion is translucent and the garlic is fragrant, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried basil, dried oregano, sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  5. Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let it simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning if needed.
  7. Serve the cooked spaghetti topped with the marinara sauce.
  8. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and grated Parmesan cheese.
