Classic Spaghetti with Hearty Meat Sauce

Indulge in this classic spaghetti with hearty meat sauce, a timeless family favorite that warms the soul. This dish features perfectly cooked spaghetti topped with a rich, savory meat sauce made from ground beef, fresh tomatoes, and aromatic Italian herbs. It's a comforting meal that evokes memories of Sunday dinners and gatherings around the table, bringing everyone together with its irresistible aroma and flavor.

Ingredients

Spaghetti noodles
12 ounces
Ground beef
1 pound
Onion
1, chopped
Garlic
3 cloves, minced
Canned diced tomatoes
14.5 ounces
Tomato sauce
15 ounces
Italian seasoning
2 teaspoons
Salt
to taste
Black pepper
to taste
Parmesan cheese
for serving, grated

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the spaghetti noodles according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until the beef is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the onion is soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the canned diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer and reduce the heat to low.
  5. Let the sauce simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens and the flavors meld together.
  6. Serve the hearty meat sauce over a bed of cooked spaghetti noodles. Top generously with freshly grated Parmesan cheese.

Tips

  • 💡 For a spicier kick, add red pepper flakes to the sauce while it simmers.
  • 💡 Feel free to substitute ground beef with ground turkey or a meat alternative for a lighter option.
  • 💡 Add a splash of red wine to the sauce for depth of flavor.
