Servings: 2
Ingredients
- Sesame seeds (1 tablespoon)
- Nori sheets (2, shredded)
- Cucumber (1, thinly sliced)
- Avocado (1, sliced)
- Sriracha sauce (2 tablespoons)
- Mayonnaise (2 tablespoons)
- Tuna steak (200g, sushi grade)
- Salt (1/2 teaspoon)
- Sugar (1 tablespoon)
- Rice vinegar (2 tablespoons)
- Water (2 cups)
- Sushi rice (1 cup)
Instructions
- Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and is crucial for achieving the perfect sushi rice texture.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice and water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 18-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water has been absorbed.
- While the rice is cooking, prepare the vinegar mixture. In a small saucepan, combine the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Heat over low heat, stirring until the sugar and salt have dissolved. This mixture will season the rice and give it the characteristic sushi rice flavor.
- Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a large bowl. Slowly pour the vinegar mixture over the rice, gently folding it in to evenly distribute the seasoning. Let the rice cool to room temperature.
- While the rice is cooling, prepare the spicy tuna. Cut the tuna steak into small pieces and place in a bowl. Add one tablespoon each of mayonnaise and sriracha sauce. Mix well to combine, adjusting the spice level to your preference.
- To assemble the sushi bowls, divide the sushi rice between two bowls. Neatly arrange the spicy tuna, avocado slices, cucumber slices, and shredded nori on top of the rice.
- In a small bowl, mix together the remaining mayonnaise and sriracha to create a spicy mayo sauce. Drizzle this sauce over the bowls.
- Finish off with a sprinkle of sesame seeds for a bit of crunch and serve immediately. Enjoy this modern twist on the classic sushi roll!
