Instructions
- Clean the fish fillets and pat them dry with a paper towel.
- Place the fillets on a heatproof plate suitable for steaming.
- Evenly distribute the ginger and garlic slices on top of the fish.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce and sesame oil. Drizzle this sauce evenly over the fish fillets, ensuring they are well coated.
- Set up your steamer. Once the water is boiling, carefully place the plate with the fish in the steamer. Cover and steam for about 10-12 minutes, or until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
- Once cooked, carefully remove the plate from the steamer. Avoid any escaping steam.
- Garnish the steamed fish with the sliced green onions and chopped cilantro. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Serve this aromatic steamed fish hot, ideally with a side of steamed rice or stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal.
Tips
- Try to use fresh fish for the best flavor. If using frozen, ensure it's thoroughly defrosted before cooking.
- While any fish fillet works fine, white-fleshed fish like cod, halibut, and tilapia are traditionally used in this recipe.
