Steamed Fish with Aromatic Asian Flavors

Indulge your senses in this exquisite Steamed Fish recipe, a timeless classic from traditional Chinese cuisine. Succulent fish fillets are delicately steamed to perfection, topped with a fragrant medley of ginger and garlic, and dressed in a mild and tantalizing sauce of soy and toasted sesame. The dish is finally adorned with the fresh crunch of green onions and the bright, herbaceous notes of cilantro. Perfect for a wholesome dinner, this dish captures the essence of healthy eating without compromising on flavor.

Ingredients

Fish fillets
4, about 6 ounces each
Ginger
2 inch piece, thinly sliced
Garlic
2 cloves, thinly sliced
Soy sauce
2 tablespoons
Sesame oil
1 tablespoon
Green onions
2, thinly sliced
Cilantro
a handful, chopped
Salt
to taste
Black pepper
to taste

Instructions

  1. Clean the fish fillets and pat them dry with a paper towel.
  2. Place the fillets on a heatproof plate suitable for steaming.
  3. Evenly distribute the ginger and garlic slices on top of the fish.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce and sesame oil. Drizzle this sauce evenly over the fish fillets, ensuring they are well coated.
  5. Set up your steamer. Once the water is boiling, carefully place the plate with the fish in the steamer. Cover and steam for about 10-12 minutes, or until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
  6. Once cooked, carefully remove the plate from the steamer. Avoid any escaping steam.
  7. Garnish the steamed fish with the sliced green onions and chopped cilantro. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  8. Serve this aromatic steamed fish hot, ideally with a side of steamed rice or stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal.

Tips

  • 💡 Try to use fresh fish for the best flavor. If using frozen, ensure it's thoroughly defrosted before cooking.
  • 💡 While any fish fillet works fine, white-fleshed fish like cod, halibut, and tilapia are traditionally used in this recipe.
