Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • Glutinous rice flour (1 cup)
  • Water (1/2 cup (for dough))
  • Sweet filling (red bean paste, sesame paste, or your favorite sweet filling) (1/2 cup)
  • Cornstarch (2 tablespoons)
  • Water (2 tablespoons (for cornstarch slurry))
  • Sesame seeds (2 tablespoons (for garnish))

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the glutinous rice flour and 1/2 cup of water. Mix well until a smooth and pliable dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, gradually add more water or flour as needed.
  2. Divide the dough into small portions, about the size of a golf ball. Flatten each portion with your hands to create a small disc.
  3. Place a spoonful of your chosen sweet filling in the center of each flattened dough portion. Be careful not to overfill.
  4. Gently fold the edges of the dough over the filling and pinch to seal, forming a smooth ball shape.
  5. Bring a pot of water to a gentle boil. Carefully add the sticky rice balls into the boiling water and cook for about 10-15 minutes. They are done when they float to the surface, indicating they are cooked through.
  6. While the rice balls are cooking, mix the cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of water in a small bowl to create a slurry.
  7. Once the sticky rice balls are cooked, use a slotted spoon to remove them from the pot and transfer them to a plate.
  8. Drizzle the cornstarch slurry over the warm sticky rice balls to give them a glossy appearance and enhance their texture.
  9. Optional: Sprinkle sesame seeds on top for a crunchy garnish.
  10. Serve the sticky rice balls warm, and enjoy this delightful treat with family and friends!
