Sticky Rice with Sausage
This dish hails from the culinary heart of Southeast Asia, where sticky rice, or 'glutinous rice', is a staple. It features succulent sausage slices infused with a symphony of flavors from aromatic ginger, garlic, oyster, and soy sauce. The rice, having soaked up all the mouthwatering juices, becomes an absolute treat to savor as a main or side dish.
Servings: 4
Ingredients
- Black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon, or to taste
- Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon, or to taste
- Vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons
- Green onions
- 2, finely chopped
- Fresh ginger
- 1 tablespoon, grated
- Garlic
- 2 cloves, minced
- Oyster sauce
- 2 tablespoons
- Soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons
- Sausage
- 2 links, sliced thin
- Sticky rice
- 2 cups, uncooked
Instructions
- Rinse the sticky rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
- In a large pot, add the sticky rice and enough water to cover it. Let it soak for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- After soaking, drain the rice and transfer it to a steamer basket or a rice cooker if available. Steam the rice for about 20 minutes, or until it becomes sticky and tender.
- While the rice is steaming, heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the sliced sausage and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the skillet and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until aromatic.
- In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce and oyster sauce. Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet and stir to coat the sausage and aromatics.
- Add the steamed sticky rice to the skillet and toss everything together until well combined.
- Cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until the rice is heated through.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Remove from heat and garnish with chopped green onions before serving. Enjoy this flavorful dish from Southeast Asia!
