This vibrant and aromatic stir-fried chicken dish is a delightful fusion of flavors, featuring the freshness of basil and the heat of red chili. Originating from Southeast Asia, this dish showcases the region's love for bold flavors and quick cooking methods. It's not only quick and easy to prepare, making it perfect for a busy weeknight dinner, but it also tantalizes your taste buds with each bite. Serve it over steamed jasmine rice or noodles to soak up the delicious sauce for a complete meal.

Ingredients

Vegetable oil
2 tablespoons
Garlic
4 cloves, minced
Red chili
2, sliced (adjust to taste)
Chicken breast
1 pound, thinly sliced
Sugar
1 teaspoon
Oyster sauce
2 tablespoons
Fish sauce
1 tablespoon
Soy sauce
2 tablespoons
Fresh basil leaves
1 cup, packed

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat until shimmering.
  2. Add minced garlic and sliced red chili to the pan. Stir-fry for about 1 minute, or until fragrant but not burnt.
  3. Add the sliced chicken breast to the wok, stirring frequently to ensure even cooking. Stir-fry for about 5-6 minutes, or until the chicken is no longer pink and cooked through.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, fish sauce, oyster sauce, and sugar until well combined.
  5. Pour the sauce mixture over the chicken in the wok. Stir-fry for an additional 2 minutes, allowing the chicken to soak up the flavors.
  6. Add the fresh basil leaves and stir-fry for another minute, until the basil is wilted and fragrant.
  7. Remove from heat and serve hot over steamed jasmine rice or noodles. Enjoy the burst of flavors!

Tips

  • 💡 For a spicier version, add more red chilies or a dash of chili paste.
  • 💡 You can substitute chicken breast with tofu for a vegetarian version.
  • 💡 Serve with a side of pickled vegetables to balance the heat and enhance the meal.
