This Sweet and Sour Cabbage is a vibrant symphony of flavors that will transport your tastebuds to the heart of European cuisine. The rich sweetness of the brown sugar, the tangy kick of the apple cider vinegar, and the subtle heat of the Dijack mustard create a harmonious balance that complements the earthy, robust cabbage. A hearty and delicious side dish that pairs fantastically with a plethora of main courses, adding a refreshing burst of flavor to your plate.

Servings: 6

Ingredients

Vegetable oil
2 tablespoons
Onion
1 medium, thinly sliced
Cabbage
1 head, shredded
Apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup
Brown sugar
1/3 cup
Ketchup
1/4 cup
Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon
Salt
1/2 teaspoon
Black pepper
1/4 teaspoon
Water
1/4 cup

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the thinly sliced onion to the skillet and cook until they become translucent and softened, usually takes about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the shredded cabbage to the skillet and continue to cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage starts to soften.
  4. While the cabbage is cooking, prepare the sauce. In a small bowl, whisk together the apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, ketchup, Dijon mustard, salt, black pepper, and water until well combined.
  5. Pour the prepared sweet and sour sauce over the cabbage and onions in the skillet. Stir well to ensure the cabbage is evenly coated with the sauce.
  6. Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and let it simmer for 15 minutes, or until the cabbage reaches your desired level of tenderness.
  7. Serve your Sweet and Sour Cabbage hot as a delightful side dish with your favorite main course.
