Swiss Chard and Bacon Quiche with Cheddar

Experience the symphony of savory flavors in this Swiss Chard and Bacon Quiche. This dish, with its origins in France, combines the crispiness of perfectly cooked bacon, the earthy taste of Swiss chard, and the creamy texture of a custard-like filling, all held together by a flaky pie crust. Topped off with melted cheddar cheese, this quiche is a delightful dish, perfect for brunch or a light dinner.

Serves 6

Ingredients

Salt
1/2 teaspoon or to taste
Black pepper
1/4 teaspoon or to taste
Cheddar cheese
1 cup, shredded
Milk
1 cup
Eggs
4, large
Garlic
2 cloves, minced
Onion
1, medium, chopped
Bacon
6 slices
Swiss chard
2 cups, chopped
Pie crust
1 (9-inch)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Fit the pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish, crimping the edges for a decorative finish. Set aside.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate. Once cool, crumble into small pieces.
  4. In the same skillet with the bacon drippings, sauté the onion and garlic on medium heat until they are softened and fragrant.
  5. Stir in the Swiss chard and continue cooking until it is wilted and the excess moisture has evaporated.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  7. Spread the cooked Swiss chard mixture evenly over the pie crust, ensuring a balanced distribution of flavors.
  8. Pour the egg mixture over the Swiss chard, making sure it seeps into all the nooks.
  9. Sprinkle the crumbled bacon and shredded cheddar cheese evenly on top.
  10. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the quiche is set and golden brown. You can test the quiche's doneness by inserting a knife into the center; if it comes out clean, the quiche is ready.
  11. Allow the quiche to cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving. This rest time helps the quiche set up for perfect slices.

Tips

  • 💡 For a vegetarian version, omit the bacon and add more Swiss chard or other vegetables like bell peppers or zucchini.
  • 💡 You can substitute Swiss chard with spinach or kale if desired.
  • 💡 For a dairy-free version, use a non-dairy milk substitute and omit the cheese.
