Swiss Chard and Ham Frittata

Indulge in the comforting flavors of this Swiss Chard and Ham Frittata, a delightful dish that brings together the earthy taste of Swiss chard, the savory goodness of ham, and the creaminess of cheddar cheese. Perfect for any meal of the day, this frittata is not only satisfying but also packed with nutrients. Historically, frittatas originated from Italy and were traditionally made to utilize leftover ingredients, making them a versatile and sustainable choice in the kitchen.

Ingredients

Olive oil
2 tablespoons
Salt
1/2 teaspoon, or to taste
Black pepper
1/4 teaspoon, or to taste
Cheddar cheese
1 cup, shredded
Milk
1/4 cup
Eggs
6 large
Garlic
2 cloves, minced
Onion
1 small, diced
Ham
1 cup, diced
Swiss chard
4 cups, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large oven-safe skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  3. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion becomes translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Stir in the chopped Swiss chard and cook until it wilts, approximately 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and a pinch of salt and pepper until well combined.
  6. Pour the egg mixture into the skillet, ensuring it covers the Swiss chard and onion evenly.
  7. Sprinkle the diced ham and shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the egg mixture.
  8. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the frittata is set in the center and the cheese is melted and golden.
  9. Remove from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes before slicing into wedges and serving.

Tips

  • 💡 For added flavor, consider sautéing some diced bell peppers or mushrooms along with the onion and garlic.
  • 💡 If you want to make this dish vegetarian, simply omit the ham and increase the amount of Swiss chard or add other vegetables like spinach or zucchini.
  • 💡 Serve with a side salad or crusty bread for a complete meal.
