Ingredients

Ground beef
1 lb
Yellow onion
1, finely chopped
Garlic cloves
2, minced
Tomato sauce
1 cup
Ground cumin
1 tsp
Salt
1 tsp
Black pepper
1/2 tsp
Vegetable oil
enough to deep-fry
Corn tortillas
12
Lettuce
1 cup, shredded
Tomato
1, diced
Cheese
1 cup, shredded

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, sauté the ground beef, chopped onion, and minced garlic over medium heat until the beef is fully cooked and no longer pink.
  2. Stir in the tomato sauce, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper into the skillet. Allow the mixture to simmer for a few more minutes until the flavors meld together.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Spoon a portion of the beef mixture onto each tortilla. Fold each tortilla in half, securing with a toothpick.
  5. Deep-fry the filled tortillas in the hot oil until they turn crispy and golden, which should take about 2-3 minutes per side.
  6. Carefully remove the fried tacos from the oil and drain on paper towels. Remove the toothpicks.
  7. Top each taco with shredded lettuce, diced tomato, and shredded cheese before serving. Enjoy your homemade Costa Rican delight!

Tips

  • 💡 For a vegetarian version, substitute the ground beef with a plant-based meat alternative.
  • 💡 For a spicier kick, add some chopped jalapenos to the beef mixture or top the tacos with hot sauce.
