1 cup
Baking powder
1 teaspoon
Granulated sugar
1/4 cup
Salt
1/4 teaspoon
Egg
1, beaten
Milk
3/4 cup
Vanilla extract
1 teaspoon
Red bean paste
1 cup
Butter or cooking spray

  2. In a separate bowl, beat the egg, then add the milk and vanilla extract. Mix well until thoroughly combined.

  4. Preheat a taiyaki pan or fish-shaped waffle iron over medium heat.
  5. Grease the pan with cooking spray or melted butter to ensure easy release.
  6. Pour a small amount of batter into each fish-shaped mold, filling it about halfway.
  7. Add a generous spoonful of red bean paste in the center of each mold.
  8. Cover the red bean paste with more batter, filling the mold completely.
  9. Close the taiyaki pan or waffle iron and cook for about 3-4 minutes, or until the taiyaki are golden brown and crisp.
  10. Carefully remove the taiyaki from the pan and let them cool on a wire rack for a couple of minutes.
  11. Repeat the process with the remaining batter and red bean paste.
  12. Serve the taiyaki warm, dusted with powdered sugar if desired, and enjoy!

Tips

  • 💡 For a twist on the traditional filling, try using sweetened chestnut paste, Nutella, or even fresh fruits like banana or apple.
  • 💡 If you don't have a taiyaki pan, a regular waffle iron can work in a pinch, but the shape may differ.
  • 💡 Experiment with flavors by adding a pinch of matcha powder or cocoa powder to the batter for a unique twist.
