Taiyaki is a delightful Japanese street food that captures the essence of both taste and tradition. Ingredients
- All-purpose flour
- 1 cup
- Baking powder
- 1 teaspoon
- Granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup

- Egg

- Milk

- Vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon
- Red bean paste
- 1 cup
- Butter or cooking spray
- for greasing the pan
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg, then add the milk and vanilla extract. Mix well until thoroughly combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.
- Preheat a taiyaki pan or fish-shaped waffle iron over medium heat.
- Grease the pan with cooking spray or melted butter to ensure easy release.
- Pour a small amount of batter into each fish-shaped mold, filling it about halfway.
- Add a generous spoonful of red bean paste in the center of each mold.
- Cover the red bean paste with more batter, filling the mold completely.
- Close the taiyaki pan or waffle iron and cook for about 3-4 minutes, or until the taiyaki are golden brown and crisp.
- Carefully remove the taiyaki from the pan and let them cool on a wire rack for a couple of minutes.
- Repeat the process with the remaining batter and red bean paste.
- Serve the taiyaki warm, dusted with powdered sugar if desired, and enjoy!
Tips
- For a twist on the traditional filling, try using sweetened chestnut paste, Nutella, or even fresh fruits like banana or apple.
- If you don't have a taiyaki pan, a regular waffle iron can work in a pinch, but the shape may differ.
- Experiment with flavors by adding a pinch of matcha powder or cocoa powder to the batter for a unique twist.
