Tamatar Ka Kut

Tamatar Ka Kut is a popular Hyderabadi dish. It is a tangy tomato curry that is best served with rice or roti.

Ingredients

  • Salt (to taste)
  • Oil (2 tablespoons)
  • Curry leaves (a few)
  • Mustard seeds (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Cumin powder (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Coriander powder (1 teaspoon)
  • Red chilli powder (1 teaspoon)
  • Turmeric powder (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Ginger (garlic paste - 1 tablespoon)
  • Green chillies (2, slit)
  • Onions (2, finely chopped)
  • Tomatoes (6, large and ripe)

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they start to splutter, add curry leaves.
  2. Add chopped onions and green chillies. Sauté until onions turn golden brown.
  3. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a few more minutes.
  4. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, and cumin powder. Mix well.
  5. Add chopped tomatoes and salt. Cook until tomatoes are soft and mushy.
  6. Cook on low heat until oil starts to separate from the mixture.
  7. Serve hot with rice or roti.
