Tandoori Paneer Skewers
A culinary gem in the crown of Indian cuisine, Tandoori Paneer Skewers are a mouthwatering combination of spicy marinated paneer, crisp bell peppers, and sweet onions. Originating from the royal kitchens of Mughal Era, this dish is traditionally cooked in the tandoor, a clay oven. However, we have adapted it to be easily made in your home oven without sacrificing any of its rich, robust flavors. The paneer is marinated in a tantalizing blend of yogurt and spices, then broiled to perfection to give it that signature charred look and delectable taste.
Servings: 4
Ingredients
- Paneer (250 grams, cubed)
- Yogurt (1 cup)
- Ginger (1 teaspoon, grated)
- Tandoori masala (1 tablespoon)
- Lemon juice (2 tablespoons)
- Red chili powder (1 teaspoon)
- Turmeric powder (1/2 teaspoon)
- Salt (to taste)
- Oil (2 tablespoons)
- Onion (1, large, cut into squares)
- Bell peppers (2, cut into squares)
- Fresh coriander (for garnishing)
- Lemon wedges (for serving)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the yogurt, grated ginger, tandoori masala, lemon juice, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt to create a rich, vibrant marinade.
- Add the paneer cubes to the marinade, ensuring each piece is well coated. Leave it to marinate for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight in the refrigerator to soak up all the flavors.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with foil for easy cleanup.
- Thread the marinated paneer cubes onto skewers, alternating with pieces of onion and bell pepper. This not only looks beautiful but also provides a wonderful balance of flavors.
- Lightly brush the skewers with oil before placing them on the prepared baking sheet. This helps to prevent sticking and adds a nice sheen.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, watching closely after 10 minutes to avoid burning. You're looking for the paneer to be slightly charred and cooked through.
- Remove from the oven and garnish your tandoori paneer skewers with refreshing lemon wedges and a sprinkle of fresh coriander. This adds a bright, citrusy contrast to the robust flavors.
- Serve hot as an appetizer or accompanied by warm naan bread or fluffy basmati rice for a satisfying main course.
