Tandoori Turnips

A vibrant and flavorful dish, Tandoori Turnips bring the exotic spices of Indian cuisine to your table. The unique sweetness of turnips is beautifully complemented by a tangy, creamy tandoori marinade made from Greek yogurt, garlic, and ginger, resulting in a dish that is both healthy and incredibly satisfying. Perfect as an appetizer or a side dish, these turnips are baked to perfection, offering a slightly charred exterior that enhances their natural flavors. Traditionally, tandoori cooking involves clay ovens, but this simple oven method brings the essence of that technique to your home.

Serves 4

Ingredients

Turnips
1 lb, cut into wedges
Greek yogurt
1 cup
Tandoori masala
2 tablespoons
Lemon juice
2 tablespoons
Garlic
3 cloves, minced
Ginger
1 tablespoon, grated
Salt
1 teaspoon
Vegetable oil
2 tablespoons
Fresh cilantro
for garnish
Lemon wedges
for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the Greek yogurt, tandoori masala, lemon juice, minced garlic, grated ginger, salt, and vegetable oil until well combined.
  2. Add the turnip wedges to the bowl and toss until they are thoroughly coated with the marinade. For the best flavor, let them marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator.
  3. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  4. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the marinated turnip wedges in a single layer.
  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the turnips are tender and slightly charred.
  6. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve with lemon wedges on the side for an extra zing.
  7. Enjoy your delicious tandoori turnips as an appetizer or as a vibrant side dish alongside your favorite main courses!

Tips

  • 💡 For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or red chili powder to the marinade.
  • 💡 These turnips pair beautifully with grilled meats or can be served alongside a refreshing cucumber raita for a cooling effect.
