Tarte aux Prunes
Tarte aux Prunes, a heavenly French plum tart, is a classic dessert that marries the buttery richness of the crust with the sweet, tart flavor of plums. Originating from the picturesque French countryside, this tart carries a delightful hint of nostalgia. The plums, glazed with apricot jam and sprinkled with cinnamon, create a vibrant masterpiece that is as pleasing to the eye as it is to the palate.
Ingredients
- All-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups
- Unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup, cold and cubed
- Granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup
- Salt
- 1/4 teaspoon
- Egg
- 1, beaten
- Plums
- 1 pound, pitted and sliced
- Brown sugar
- 1/2 cup
- Ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon
- Lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon
- Apricot jam
- 1/2 cup
Instructions
- Combine the flour, butter, granulated sugar, and salt in a food processor. Pulse until you achieve a coarse crumb texture.
- Add the beaten egg into the mixture and pulse again until a dough forms.
- Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and shape into a disk. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface into a circle large enough to fit a 9-inch tart pan. Press the dough into the bottom and sides of the pan.
- In a separate bowl, mix the sliced plums, brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Make sure the plums are well-coated.
- Spread the apricot jam evenly over the tart crust.
- Arrange the plum slices in a circular pattern over the jam layer.
- Bake the tart for 40-45 minutes, until the crust turns golden and the plums are tender.
- Allow the tart to cool before serving. This tart is best enjoyed either at room temperature or chilled.
Tips
- For a more rustic look, arrange the plum slices in a spiral pattern starting from the outer edge and working your way in.
- The tart can be served with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent dessert.
- You can substitute the plums with other stone fruits such as peaches or cherries based on the season.
