Servings: 4

Ingredients

Ground beef
1 pound (90% lean recommended)
Teriyaki sauce
1/2 cup, plus extra for serving
Pineapple slices
4 slices, fresh or canned
Red onion
1 medium, sliced into rings
Hamburger buns
4, preferably whole wheat or brioche
Mayonnaise
1/4 cup
Lettuce leaves
4 leaves, washed and dried
Tomato
1 large, sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, form the ground beef into 4 equal-sized patties, making a small indentation in the center of each to promote even cooking. Brush each patty generously with teriyaki sauce.
  3. Grill the patties for about 5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness (internal temperature should be at least 160°F for medium).
  4. While the burgers are cooking, grill the pineapple slices and onion rings for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they are lightly charred and have grill marks.
  5. To assemble the burgers, spread mayonnaise on the insides of each bun. Layer with fresh lettuce, a slice of tomato, the grilled burger patty, the grilled pineapple slice, and the grilled onion rings.
  6. Drizzle additional teriyaki sauce on top if desired, cover with the top half of the bun, and serve immediately.
