Historically, Thai basil is a key ingredient in many traditional dishes, known for its unique peppery flavor that enhances the overall profile of the meal. Ingredients

Fresh basil leaves
1 cup, packed
Vegetable oil
2 tablespoons
Sugar
1 tablespoon
Fish sauce
2 tablespoons
Oyster sauce
2 tablespoons
Soy sauce
2 tablespoons
Thai bird's eye chili
2-3, sliced (adjust to taste)
Garlic
4 cloves, minced
Chicken breast
1 pound, sliced thinly

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, and sugar until the sugar is dissolved. Set aside.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat until shimmering.
  3. Add the minced garlic and sliced Thai bird's eye chili to the hot oil and stir-fry for about 30 seconds, until fragrant but not burnt.
  4. Add the sliced chicken to the skillet and stir-fry for about 5-6 minutes, until the chicken is fully cooked and no longer pink.
  5. Pour the sauce mixture over the chicken and stir-fry for an additional 2-3 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the chicken evenly.
  6. Remove the skillet from heat and gently stir in the fresh basil leaves until just wilted.
  7. Serve the Thai Basil Chicken Stir Fry hot over steamed jasmine rice or rice noodles.
  8. Garnish with additional fresh basil leaves and sliced chili, if desired.

Tips

  • 💡 For a vegetarian version, substitute chicken with firm tofu and use a vegetarian oyster sauce.
  • 💡 Feel free to add vegetables like bell peppers, snap peas, or broccoli for added nutrition and color.
  • 💡 Adjust the number of bird's eye chilies based on your spice preference.
