Inspired by the folklore of the ghost ship, The Flying Dutchman is a legendary burger that takes the classic cheeseburger to a new level of indulgence. Featuring two juicy beef patties layered with melted cheddar cheese, this delightful creation is perfect for those who crave bold flavors without the distraction of a bun. The simplicity of the ingredients allows the rich savoriness of the beef and cheese to shine through, making it a must-try for any burger enthusiast.

Servings: 2

Ingredients

Ground beef
1 pound (80/20 blend for optimal juiciness)
Cheddar cheese
2 slices (sharp or mild, based on preference)
Salt
1 teaspoon
Black pepper
1/2 teaspoon
Optional toppings
lettuce, tomato, pickles, or your favorite condiments

Instructions

  1. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Divide the ground beef into two equal portions (about 1/2 pound each) and gently shape each portion into a patty, making a slight indentation in the center to prevent puffing during cooking.
  3. Generously season both sides of the patties with salt and black pepper.
  4. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness (medium-rare to medium is recommended for best flavor).
  5. In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty, allowing it to melt beautifully over the beef.
  6. Once cooked, remove the patties from the heat and let them rest for a couple of minutes to retain their juices.
  7. To serve, stack one patty on top of the other, with the melted cheese in between. Optionally, add toppings like lettuce, tomato, or pickles for extra crunch and flavor.
  8. Enjoy the Flying Dutchman with a side of crispy fries or a fresh salad!
